CONVERSION OF BARN INTO VACATION RESIDENCE

In the village of Molare, in Val Leventina, as in many valleys in Ticino, numerous barns have been converted into second homes over time.
The project involves transforming the upper level of the building, originally used as a barn, by adding a fully insulated wooden shell to create a single living space reminiscent of a typical mountain hut. All the interior walls are clad in fir, a material also used for the new windows and doors, while the floor, kitchen and external shutters are made of larch. The lower floor, once used as a shelter for animals and agricultural tools, has been retained in its original function as a storage area.
The intervention aims to preserve the authentic character of the building through the use of traditional local materials, the maintenance of the stone openings and the restoration of the wooden infill panels and corrugated sheet metal roofing.
